Mercy and You...
Partners in Your Cancer Care

Mercy Cancer Center leads our region’s fight against cancer and has for nearly 50 years. If you or someone close to you has been diagnosed with cancer, you can trust Mercy Cancer Center to provide the region’s best treatment – tailored to the particular needs of our individual patients.

Remember, while cancer is a very serious disease, it can be treated, it can be controlled…and it can be defeated.

The Region’s Most Advanced Care
Since 1958, Mercy has been fighting cancer by partnering with outstanding doctors, staying abreast of clinical innovations and acquiring today’s latest in technology. Mercy Cancer Center, along with the expert physicians at the Radiation Medicine Association of Scranton (RAMAS), have teamed up to create NROC – Northeast Radiation Oncology Centers. This partnership allows us to provide cancer treatment that’s multi-disciplinary, clinically advanced and personalized.

Nationally Recognized By the American College of Surgeons
Since 1977, Mercy has received and maintained accreditation from the American College of Surgeons (ACOS) Commission on Cancer, which is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients. This means our full scope of diagnoses, treatment, rehabilitation and patient support services have been reviewed and commended by the ACOS.

Outstanding Achievement Award
The Mercy Cancer Center has also received the Commission on Cancer Outstanding Achievement Award. This recognizes national cancer programs that strive for excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients. A cancer facility receives the award following an on-site evaluation by a physician surveyor.
Only 19 percent of cancer programs surveyed throughout the country – and only four hospitals in Pennsylvania – received this prestigious award in 2008.

Our Cancer-Fighting Teams
At Mercy, you’ll be comforted to know that we provide comprehensive cancer care, drawing from the talents of primary care physicians, surgeons, pathologists, radiation oncologists, hematology oncologists, nurses, cancer registrars, community and professional educators, rehabilitation specialists, counselors, nutritionists, social services and others.
Mercy Cancer Center caregivers form specialized teams to provide you with individualized care. Each team member remains in constant contact with you communicating and discussing the details of your care and progress.

Advanced Cancer Treatment Options
Surgery, chemotherapy and radiation are medical options that may be part of your treatment plan. They are often used in combination – but remember that everyone’s care is different and unique.

Advanced Clinical Research
Mercy Cancer Center is also part of an extensive national database that assists in identifying and treating specific kinds of cancer. With decades of clinical experience, Mercy is the only regional hospital accredited to participate in clinical trials that may offer new approaches to your cancer treatment. Mercy Hospital and our partner physicians at NROC are accredited by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to offer these programs.
